Insurance Licensing Requirements in Maryland:

Continuing Education Requirements in Maryland:

Continuing education is required for all resident Maryland producers. A total of 24 hours of CE credit is required every two years. A minimum of 3 hours must be on the subject of professional ethics for the insurance producer.

 

Producers selling long term care insurance, flood insurance or annuities must complete supplemental training before selling these products.

In order to sell flood insurance, each producer must complete a one-time 2-hour continuing education course about the federal flood insurance program.

In order to sell long term care partnership insurance producers must have completed a one-time, 8-hour initial training course. 4 hours of ongoing training must be completed every 24 months after taking the initial 8-hour course in order to continue transacting long term care insurance. 

In order to sell long term care insurance producers must complete 2 hours of CE every two years.

 

Effective 11/1/2011, all producers currently licensed to sell/solicit/negotiate annuity products must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours by 5/1/2012.  All producers licensed on or after 11/1/2011 must complete this training prior to selling/soliciting/negotiating such products.

Compliance Renewal Date:
Effective April 11, 2011:  The license renewal date is every 2 years ending on the last day of the producer''s birth month.

Carryover Hours:
Not allowed

Course Repetition:
Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in a renewal period.  If a course is taken during two consecutive renewal periods, there must be at least 6 months between completion dates.

Reporting Method:
CE credits are reported daily to Prometric (classes within 30 days after course completion)
